Several people have died and police have warned more bodies could be recovered after a crane fell onto a train in Thailand. At least 22 people have died and 79 others are injured from the incident, police said. Eight people have severe injuries, the BBC reported.. A construction crane fell onto a train travelling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province in north-eastern Thailand on Wednesday, January 14. It is believed the train was carrying 195 people, based on its seating plan, but the actual number may vary. Local police said the incident occurred at around 9am in Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 230 km (143 miles) northeast of the capital Bangkok. The crane was working on a rail project before it collapsed and struck the moving train. The train derailed and briefly caught fire, according to the BBC. Images released by the Nakhon Ratchasima provincial government shows a carriage on its side. Much of the top part of the carriage is charred, while the back of the carriage has been severely damaged. Debris is strewn on the side of the railway. Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, has called for a “thorough and comprehensive investigation” into the cause of the incident.
